odera:

Where are all the black/african/afro-diasporic illustrators?
Do we not exist? Or have the tendrils of anti-blackness seeped it’s way into every corner of society including *gasp* the visual arts.

“It’s not about color bro, the best artist is just…hired for the jobs at hand” #post race #postidentity #postcriticalthinking

Let’s define “best. Let’s destroy the myth. Let’s celebrate Black excellence~!

Everyday this month I’m going to post some of my favorite work from illustrators/painters who make my heart sing “pata-pata” and make my melanin pop severely. So here’s to some of my biggest inspirations, as well as peers/contemporaries, and artists who may have flown under your radar.

Let’s start with one of my absolute favorite illustrators/painters. His use of light and color is extraordinary. And the incorporation of graphic elements and patterns weaving in and out of the paint is something I absolutely adore.

Give it up yall, for the creator of Ebony Visions.
