Hubble images such as the above Frontier Fields color image ( slices blown up to 100%) of galaxy cluster MCS J0416.1–2403 are not just one long time exposure. Even when it’s pointing in a direction where Earth doesn’t get in the way for half of its orbit Hubble has to interrupt its observations every time it passes through the South Atlantic Anomaly, a place where the Earth’s inner Van Allen radiation belt comes closest to the Earth’s surface dipping down to an altitude of 200 km (124 mi).
