What Motivates You? Finding Inspiration in the Work and Words Of 10 Amazing Black Women Artists: Daniela Yohannes.

Often, whether you’re creatively inclined or seeking encouragement to face your everyday struggles, finding inspiration and the motivation to see through your artistic vision or are grappling with the battles of your daily life is can be just as hard as the battle you’re trying to overcome. Lately, in dealing with these hardships myself, I turned to the work of some of my favourite black women artists, and, intrigued by what fuels their passion to share their talents, went one step further and spoke to some of them about what keeps them going.

Born in 1982, Daniela Yohannes is a visual artist hailing from Eritrea/Ethiopia raised in Italy and educated in England. After completing an Illustration Degree and working within the field, she decided to make the transition from digital to material canvases in 2010. She has since had solo and group exhibitions and held residencies across the world. Daniela is currently settled and producing work from her studio in Paris.

“My work explores themes of the human condition. It is also concerned with spirituality, myth and the world of ritual, expressing the power of our collective consciousness and paying homage to the ancestors. Drawing on my African heritage, my paintings are bright and bold in colour and simple, yet rich, in detail. I produce works using mixed media, including acrylic, oil markers, collage, gouache and glitter.”
